For young PR professionals, career growth starts with building a strong foundation of skills and relationships. Mastering the fundamentals—writing compelling content, crafting engaging pitches, and understanding media landscapes—is essential, but equally important is cultivating a strong professional network and personal brand. While breaking into public relations is exciting, it can also feel overwhelming. Between managing client expectations and staying ahead of fast-changing industry trends, it’s easy to wonder: Am I on the right track?

That’s where mentorship comes in. The Greater Cleveland PRSA Chapter is proud to offer a mentoring program designed to connect early-career professionals with seasoned PR leaders who have been where you are and know how to help you get where you want to be.

Why Mentorship Is a Game-Changer

PR is a people-driven profession, and mentorship is one of the most powerful ways to grow both personally and professionally. Through our mentoring program, you’ll gain:

  • Personalized guidance from industry leaders who’ve navigated the same (or similar) challenges you face today.
  • Objective feedback from someone invested in your success but outside your daily workplace dynamics.
  • Career-accelerating insights into everything from pitching techniques to crisis communication strategies.

How It Works

The program pairs mentees—PR professionals with one to five years of experience—with mentors, who bring seven or more years in the field.

  • Kickoff Meeting: You and your mentor connect for an initial session to set goals and expectations.
  • Six-Month Journey: Over the next six months, you’ll meet about once a month either in person or by phone or video chat.
  • Full Flexibility: Each mentor/mentee pair designs their experience based on individual needs and schedules.

The results? Meaningful relationships that often extend beyond the program itself. Many past participants stay in touch, continuing to support and learn from one another for years to come.

Invest in Your Future

If you’re just starting your career, having a mentor can be a game-changer. You’ll get access to insider knowledge and recommendations that only come from lived experience—advice you won’t find in textbooks or Google searches.
