Posted on Apr. 28, 2022  /   0

Kendra Davis, APR is the Director of Marketing at Hathaway Brown School and a board member of the Public Relations Society of America. She recently acquired the APR certification for PRSA and is a committed member of the Cleveland Chapter.

Kendra initially joined PRSA as a post-graduate and become a part of the association to ultimately fulfill her passion of the public relations industry. She is a dedicated board service member and enjoys working with other PR professionals to advance their careers on a local level.

Kendra began her career by earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees in public relations at Kent State University. As a recent college graduate, she worked in an agency where she was provided the opportunity to mentor senior professionals with APR designation and strived for this certification throughout her career. After 10 years with PRSA, her goals were now aligned toward leadership opportunities and the APR designation. The APR elevated and enhanced how Kendra approached her career and status within PRSA.

She explains her journey to the APR certification as, “Undergrad was learning the profession, graduate school was understanding the history and theory of the profession and the APR was to apply my knowledge in action and demonstrate my expertise in the field.” APR certification requires leaders to have full knowledge of the public relations field and tests this expertise through an exam and panel presentation. Kendra demonstrated this commitment and repeated the quote by Beyonce, “‘I dream it, I work hard, I grind ‘til I own it,’” until her APR certification became a reality.

To expand further on Kendra’s commitment and leadership, she is involved in the PRSA Cleveland Chapter in a variety of ways. She has served on the Cleveland Rocks committee and chaired the annual Student Day event, where she previously served as membership chair, diversity chair, and mentorship chair. Currently, she is chairing the scholarship committee. Working with students and new professionals has been the most rewarding aspect of working on the PRSA Board. With chairing the scholarship committee, Kendra helps students and young professionals network and find the connections they need in PRSA to start their careers in this industry.

PRSA has provided Kendra with the resources to continue growing as a professional within the PR field. Her current role as Director of Marketing is highly centered around public relations and she consistently uses the research, planning, implementation, and evaluation PR method for most of the work she does on a daily basis. Some of her responsibilities include social media strategy, external messaging and positioning, reputation management, community relations, admission strategy and alumni relations.

Kendra marked her fourth year at Hathaway Brown School and was recently promoted to Director of Marketing within the last year. She is a member of the school’s executive team and leads the marketing and communications team.
