MEMBER PROFILE: MEET CHARLES CYRILL, DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS, OHIO TURNPIKE

As the 2024 treasurer of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Cleveland chapter, Charles Cyrill reflects on his journey from a college PRSSA member to now playing a pivotal role on the PRSA board.
Charles’ Cyrill’s journey with PRSA began back at his college days at The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Over the years since, he has participated as an active member of several chapters, including Washington D.C. and most recently, an at-large director in the Cleveland chapter.
“I became a board member following the advice of a former board member who recommended that I consider rejoining,” he said. “I realize the value of networking, attending events, and supporting others who are considering careers in the profession.”
In his professional career, Cyrill currently works for the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission. In December 2021, he began there as Public Information Officer, developing content, upholding a strong relationship with the media and government agencies as well as toll road customers. Now, he is the Director of Marketing and Communications with the Ohio Turnpike.
Cyrill thoroughly enjoys his time and work at the Ohio Turnpike, but after being asked, did pause to reflect on the routes his career may have taken, if things were different.
“I have always enjoyed travel and the hotel industry as well as the restaurant and bar industry,” he said. “I worked in the automotive industry for many years attending auto shows, conferences, and trade shows.”
Always looking towards the future and upcoming opportunities, Cyrill often takes time to reflect on his current role and those around him. Finding inspiration from his friends and colleagues.
“I find it inspiring to work with colleagues who dedicate their time and effort to the ethical practice of public relations and professional development,” he said. “It’s a rewarding experience to volunteer for an organization and work side-by-side with some of the best PR professionals across Greater Cleveland and beyond.”
Beyond his professional life and PRSA membership, Cyrill enjoys unwinding through photography, a hobby that compliments his career in the field of communications and his love for travel and adventure. Additionally, he also enjoys riding his motorcycle during the warmer months. During the winter months, when able, he also likes to participate in winter sports.

On his love for adventure and travel, it is a point of fact that Cyrill tries to travel as often as he can and to distant countries as well. Some years ago, he traveled to Nepal and trekked through the Himalayas.
“The scenery was spectacular, with the star of the show naturally being Mt. Everest and the surrounding mountains,” Cyrill added.
