When asked about how Christine Chenevey became involved in Public Relations Society of America in the first place, she explained that she had been a part of the PRSA Cleveland chapter early in her career and later rejoined upon her return to non-profit work back in 2020. She shared that her reason was driven by prior support and help the society has given her with past careers. This time, however, she delved deep into the PRSA world by initially joining and later chairing the Cleveland Rocks Award Committee.
What she has found to be the most rewarding aspect of working on the PRSA board, Chenevey replied, “From day one, the professionalism and synergy of the committee was evident. Amazing friendships and collaborations have since evolved. And it has been a pleasure getting to know Cleveland’s future PR pros through our vibrant Public Relations Student Society of America chapter, including Student Day and our mentoring program.”
Her role on the board revolves around maintaining and properly updating membership records and conducting outreach with members regarding their membership status. As a professional, Chenevey's role recently shifted after the merger of Koinonia, her previous workplace, with the like-minded and forward-thinking Columbus-based nonprofit, I Am Boundless, in October of 2023. As a result, her position now entails advancing the mission and people of Boundless through philanthropy, community relations, and communications within the north Ohio region.
Ironically, Chenevey launched her first PR campaign in junior high, forming a student committee to help pass the school budget. Adding, "The crayon-on-cardboard fueled parade wouldn’t have won a #PRSACLE Rocks Award, but we did use tactics including surveying the community and an op-ed." Public Relations obviously has been a natural fit for her.
Outside the PRSA world and her professional career, Chenevey enhances her green thumb by cultivating her love for gardening and tending her colorful flower wall. She also can be found paddleboarding with her dog, Mailey, and enjoying the outdoors by biking and hiking.
