The new year is here and with it, another opportunity to begin or, reignite, those personal and professional pledges of self-improvement.
As the new year inspires change, there is still work to be done in recognizing and celebrating diversity and inclusion in our professional environment. For example, according to an article by McKinsey and Company on the state of diversity in global private markets, Black and Hispanic professionals remain underrepresented, even at firms that lead on ethnic and racial diversity. Fourteen percent of the US population is Black, and 19 percent is Hispanic, but even at leading firms, only 8 percent of managing directors are Black, and 9 percent are Hispanic.
Race is but one component of diversity. One of the D&I committee goals is to increase the need for awareness and inclusion of marginalized groups that make America so great and diverse. The good news is our chapter's D&I team is growing. Our committee includes awesome members, each bringing their unique background and experience and passion for D&I in an effort to increase awareness, inform and inspire change.
So, as message makers and content creators, let's continue in 2024, to commit to reaching past our comfort zone. Let's expand the D&I in our professional and personal environments. We look forward to continuing to share information and resources from both local and national to assist you in your journey. For example, tune into the upcoming virtual presentation and discussion on The Status of Health Equity and the Progress Being Made on January 25, 2024 that's free to attend for PRSA members.
By the way, if you and or your organization have made any changes to improve your D&I outcomes, please share your story. We'd love to hear what worked.
