SPOTLIGHT ON Sydney Stone, APR, FEDERAL RESERVE BANK
Sydney Stone, senior communications coordinator at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, has been a member of PRSA for going on six years. She is currently PRSA's president-elect and will be officially taking over as president in January 2023.
Recently, Sydney passed her examination and is now an Accredited in Public Relations (APR) professional. Congrats, Sydney!
Following is a Q & A with Sydney to help get to know her better!
Why did you decide to become a PRSA Board member?
I thought it would be a good way to get more involved in the chapter as I had a great experience as a student in PRSSA and as an associate member for a few years. I also wanted to get to know some of the people on the board to grow my network and knew that becoming a board member would help keep me accountable.
What is your role on the PRSA Board?
I am the equivalent of Vice President, but the position is formally known as President-Elect because I will become the President next year.
What is your role in your professional career?
I am a Senior Communications Coordinator at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. So I do all things communications related including the website, writing newsletter content, research briefs, and speaking points for the banking and supervision area at the Federal Reserve.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of working on the PRSA board?
Having the opportunity to get to know my peers in the PR community of Cleveland has been rewarding. I have made some good friends and have been able to stay current in such a changing industry which has helped me as I transition out of the early part of my career.
What is the value of PRSA to you? Why did you become involved in PRSA in the first place?
It is a good way to hold yourself accountable for your professional development in a structured way. I would recommend it to anyone because it helps you stay up to date and avoid falling behind in this everchanging field which could limit future job prospects and other opportunities.
If you weren’t a public relations superstar what would you be?
I would probably be working in the nonprofit arts field as I grew up doing a lot of theater and music and I continue to enjoy the arts. I also really have a passion for animals and dogs so I could see myself being a dog trainer or behavioral specialist, I currently volunteer for the Cleveland Kennel where I walk the dogs about every week which is something that I really enjoy.

When you are not donating your time to PRSA or at work, how do you like to spend your time? Hobbies or Interests?
I have a lot of different interests such as knitting and crocheting, My partner and I enjoy traveling when we can but have not recently due to COVID restrictions. I volunteer for PRSA and the kennel as I mentioned earlier and in my free time, I am currently studying for my APR exam.
Fun fact about you?
I went skydiving last summer and have plans to go again as I enjoy the adrenaline rush.
