Why APR? Reflections on the process three years after passing

I earned my Accreditation in Public Relations in October 2022. Wow, it's amazing how much life and work can change just in the span of three years! Back then, I took my test at a facility in Akron (now you can only take the test at home) wearing a mask and praying I wasn't about to contract COVID-19 from the testing facility keyboard. I worked all the way through the allotted time and finished the test only seconds before the final buzzer, nervous sweating the whole way. When I was given the piece of paper saying I "passed," I quite literally jumped for joy!

Now it's been three years and I just put in all of my continuing education units (CEUS) for my three year renewal. I also have the pleasure of serving as the chapter's local APR chair and shepherding other members through the process of earning this accreditation. In my experience, the process was long, but the benefits I gained far outweighed the costs. Since earning my APR I have been promoted in my organization, served as president of our local chapter's PRSA board, and been given access to networking and resources I never would have had before. It's been an excellent boost to my career as I move out of the young professional arena and into mid-career.
