New Member Profile: Amanda Kieber, Director of Corporate Communications at Oatey Co.

Amanda Kieber is a strong, independent woman who is confident enough in herself and her skills to create what she wants out of life. She knows what she is capable of because her determined work ethic, constant motivation, and authentic self has carried her to new opportunities and growth.
Growing up in Urbana, Ohio she dreamed of becoming a writer. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated in 2009 with a degree in English/ Literature. She flourished at work, always striving to do more, always watching and listening to learn from those with more experience. Kieber always advocated for herself and when an opportunity arose, she jumped at it, not shying away from the fear of rejection. She turned her degree into “a well-rounded career in corporate communications.” Whether it’s writing, communicating, or strategizing, she is in a career that can use her skills and strengths in a way that makes a difference and there is nothing better being passionate about one’s career choice and taking pride in it. After moving to Lakewood, Ohio a couple of years ago, she joined ‘Team Oatey’ and now has the pleasure of leading the Corporate Communications team at the Oatey Company.
The team does everything from social media, external communications, PR and media relations, content development, podcasts, and internal communications. Occasionally Kieber works on actual projects, but mostly she is there to lead and help them achieve. The possibilities are endless as the Oatey Team continues to grow and try new things to help develop their media relations even further.
Kieber isn’t only devoted to her work, at home she is mother of two young boys, ages 3 and 5. Obviously she has her hands full. Successfully being a working mom is not an easy task and she takes pride in the fact that she can balance her professional life and her home life. She has had to face challenging situations, especially during the height of the pandemic in March 2020. She had just started working for Oatey, her kids were then, 1 and 3 and with all childcare facilities closed, she had to make the best out of a tough situation. She pushed through and explained that fortunately she has a lot of ‘support from the top’ which really makes all the difference.
During her free time, she enjoys kickboxing, board games, reading, exploring new restaurants, and taking her boys to the park or the local pool. Living in Lakewood is the perfect scene for these interests, and she couldn’t be happier with the move.
She continues to work toward her goals by further expanding her director, leadership skills as she leads the team to a huge growth trajectory. “Not all days are easy, as with most jobs,” she says, but she loves what she does and values the company. Kieber continues, “It is more complex than meets the eye. Public relations is exciting because it is an intersection of so many different competencies; writing, strategizing, sociology and psychology. It is a balance of all those competencies,” but that is what keeps the job is so interesting!
