A note from PRSA’s APR Chair

by Jenn Elting, Greater Cleveland PRSA APR Chair

April is PRSA’s APR Month and it’s the perfect time to start thinking about earning your APR (or APR+M for military comms pros). There’s lots of great information about the APR process online, including links to boot camps, FAQs and even a study guide. The first step in the process is applying for your APR, and then you sit for a local panel presentation and lastly, take an examination.

I’m a new APR myself, earning my accreditation in December 2020, but I’m also PRSA CLE’s APR Chair. I’m here to answer any questions you have about the APR process and can find judges for your panel presentation and schedule it when you’re ready.

A lot of the APR panel presentation process and exam is based on RPIE: Research, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation. If you’ve ever entered our chapter’s PRSA Cleveland Rocks awards, you’ve seen this acronym before. These four letters are key to earning those other three letters, APR.

There’s a new webinar series being offered through PRSA that’s all about this process. Top Talents Compete: who’s got the greatest communication campaign? begins April 6th and continues weekly throughout the month. It’s a gameshow-inspired interactive program where “contestants” (PR pros) present each part of the process each week and you help determine the weekly winner. Check it out and I hope you enjoy this professional development opportunity!
